Sometimes you just need to sit and breathe...
From a scientific perspective, awe is believed to be triggered by stimuli that are perceived as novel or unexpected. This can include natural landscapes, art, music or other forms of beauty. Research has shown that experiencing awe can lead to positive psychological and physiological effects, such as increased feelings of well-being and a greater sense of connectedness to others. In my art, I like to connect people with the world around them, a world that is seldom enjoyed in our cellphone-illuminated skies. I hope to inspire others to experience awe and wonder for themselves, and to appreciate the beauty and complexity of the world around them.
My photography is focused around capturing moments of awe and wonder. Awe is a complex emotion that is characterized by feelings of vastness, transcendence, and a sense of being in the presence of something greater than oneself. It is often described as a feeling of reverence or admiration for something grand, beautiful, or mysterious. Think of a song that gives you goosebumps - this is awe.
I aim to capture the natural beauty of the world and the awesomeness of our local galaxy. I use techniques such as long exposures, stacked long exposures and wide-angle lenses to create a sense of scale and grandeur. Additionally, I use telephoto lenses in my photography to create a sense of intimacy in my photos - drawing your attention to small details that are lost in wide-angle photography.
